Interesting paper on calculating the difficulty level of manufacturing a model

I only scanned through the document. The guy claims to have used a algorithm to calculate and visualize the difficulty level of a "manufacturing" a build. He claims it allows designers to make a more informed choice between additive and subtractive methods.

In your opinion, could a similar technique be helpful for reprap users?

I've started to read the paper more thoroughly, there is a reference [19] that explains the manufacturing indexes in more detail:
