Blown H-Bridges - Any chance of a rescue with a stepper driver?

I hope all are well on the forum.

Good news - I got my first RepRap up and running and managed to print a set of parts for another Mendel. I'll post an outline of SF41 settings used shortly.

Bad news - Whilst testing my stepper motors for my second printer, the extruder board lets out 2 bright orange glows and a puff of smoke. RIP H-Bridges sad smiley. After looking at the motor in question it seemed to require much more force to turn it than the other 3 motors. In future I will check the motors rotate freely and equally before putting any power through them.

Now for the question. Can an extruder with fried H-Bridges still be used to run an external stepper motor?

I have seen details outlined on how this can be done but all examples used extruder boards with functioning H-Bridges.

Regards

Raj

Are you using Gen3 electonics?

Use a pololu instead of the fried H-Bridges.
See here in the wiki.

Hi CdnRepRap,

Yes, i'm using Gen3. I have a spare Gen3 2.2 stepper driver so need to know if this can be used with fried H-Bridges on the Extruder Board.

Thanks.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the confirmation.

I'll get working on this now.

Thanks again.
