Motors only going one direction.. sad smiley

Sorry if this has been posted before, I wasn't having much luck on the search.

I'm trying to get my Prusa up and running. It has the mega 2560 / RAMPS V1.2, and I'm using Sprinter firmware and Pronterface host software.

I've verified that each of my x, y and z axes will move, but the problem is they will only move in one direction. (I am bumping them +1 step in the Pronterface host software). If I flip the connector to the stepper motor I can get them to go in the opposite direction so I'm pretty sure the motors themselves are ok.

One more thing: when I'm using the X motor on the RAMPS I hear a high pitched noise as soon as I run the motor, which sounds like it comes from the motor itself (I tried with both the X and Y motors, both do the same thing). The noise goes away when I issue a motor stop (M84) command.

Are these two problems related? Better yet is there an easy fix? What should I be checking? Any help is much appreciated, I'm pulling my hair out over this thing!

Are your endstops connected?

Yeah, endstops need to be connected in order to go both directions. make sure your directions are correct too with a test print. You might have to mirror your wires at the board level. Or you might have to swap the x and y axis motors (i had to do this because the print was backwards and upside down.

You can reverse the endstop behaviour and axis movement direction in Sprinter firmware. Try to trigger the endstop by hand and try if it moves in both directioins, if it does, change the endstop behavior. What kind of ES do you use ? Mechanical or optical ? How many connectors do they have, 2 or 3 ? and which ones did u soldered the cables on ?

Greetings

Endstops! They are connected, but I rushed through that part so perhaps I messed that up. I was hoping it was something easy.

I have them wired with only two wires only, as Makergear recommended. I will have to double check my wiring and also if the sprinter firmware is set up correctly.

thanks for the starting point! I hope I can figure it out from here but I will check back if I can't.
