ANNOUNCEMENT: reprap-host-0.8.1.zip package is released

Our second "packaged" host software release, reprap-host-0.8.1.zip is now released on SourceForge, see [sourceforge.net]

This release has more changes than I can list, including:

* A corresponding src package reprap-host-src-0.8.1.zip
* Improved run scripts with a setting to use more RAM so larger objects print
* Display of a shell for lower layers in the Previewer, reducing RAM usage
* Improved JavaDoc comment coverage (thanks to Joost)
* More exceptions trapped relating to serial port use (thanks to Zach)
* More readable colours for the previewer status window (thanks to Eric)

NOTE: If you use this, please note that the preferences file has changed quite substantially (support for multiple extruder heads being the main reason). You may want to either manually edit your ~/.reprap/reprap.preferences file to match the new names and properties, or "start afresh" if you prefer by moving your reprap.preferences file out of the way and so allowing the software to create a new default one for you.

Please do test this new package and report bugs here and on the SF Bug Tracker.

I have been trying to rerun the batch file on XP. I have the c:\java with java3d and je1.5.0-11 anf the rxtxcomm.jar all the files in the right places as explained in the forum and this is what I get

C:\SourceCode\reprap-host-0.8>reprap-host

C:\SourceCode\reprap-host-0.8>java -jar Reprap.jar
'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

C:\SourceCode\reprap-host-0.8>
I downloaded host-0.8.1, but there is no batch file for windows execution. I guess I'll wait for my linux compatable usb to serial cable.

(1) Please double check your %PATH% and your Java installation.

My Java installation on Windows seems to put a copy of java.exe into c:\windows\system32 so it is on the %PATH%. I have done multiple such installs and they always do that. I have no idea why yours would do something different!?

(2) What makes you say this?? That would be a major packaging bug, if true.

I just downloaded reprap-host-0.8.1.zip from SourceForge and verified that it has a reprap-host.bat file, just like 0.8 does, and that it runs fine for me here under Windows XP -- at least using null cartesian. If your copy of reprap-host-0.8.1.zip is missing a reprap-host.bat file, please download a new copy.

I suggest you uninstall all Java JDKs and JREs from Windows, and then install the Java 1.5.0_11 JDK afresh, and see how well that works for you?

The RepRap host code really is portable to Linux, Windows and OS X, and has been at least somewhat tested to make sure of that before release.

THANK YOU! SO MUCH! This helped me alot, i was having probs with my java it wouldnt let me play runescape, but i pasted your code in my path and it works! OMG THANKS!!!

hey can some1 teach me how to get to path? im having the same problems with the java not being recognized n im not so good with computers n i dont know how to get to "PATH" or what to do there

Hi, you may try the portable version that I posted here:

it comes with all java files bundled and you have nothing to do but unpack and run the exe (description inside)

It's 0.9 but I guess you can just downgrade the reprap folder for the new version, if not use the newer one
