Extruder not heating during print

Extruder not heating during print
July 25, 2010 07:40PM
My extruder heats up at the beginning of the print. I can see the LED light up. However, once the print starts, it doesn't come back on. The tip cools off and nothing comes out.

It heats up fine when I use the RepRap host software to turn the heat on.

Anyone have any idea?

Checking your gcode file and take a looking a M104 command is being set.

Also you can see [reprap.org] and know more about Reprap Gcode.

I looked at the file. I has a M109 to set the initial temp but there are no M104 commands until the end when it sets the temp to 0.

Which firmware have you got on the extruder?

When I first posted this, I was using the firmware from January 5. I've downloaded the reprap host from July 19 and updated my firmware to that. Now the RepRap host software doesn't even register the thermistor or turn on the temp. Sometime it just says the temp is 255 but it's not hot. I set the motherboard value to 1 in the motherboard firmware. When I tried to set the motherboard on 2, the lights on the exturder board for checking the temp just stayed on all the time so it read the temp once and that was it. I may just not have the firmware set up right.

To be honest it sounds like you need to confirm that firmware is correctly setup. You should not need to change the motherboard type. And as the motherboard speaks to the extruder board to get the temp, the issue will be on the extruder firmware rather than the motherboard firmware.

Are you using the 5D firmware for both boards?

Yes 5D.
