A question about the RS22 cable

A question about the RS22 cable

This afternoon I went to 4 different local computer shops, two more of the 'we sell everything' kind and two of the 'handy man' type looking for a 9 pin DSUB rs232 male/female cable to hook up my emerging machine. I still havent found one!!! I ended up with a female/female cable and a usb to rs232 cable which ends in a male connector. Never thought these things would become so 'rare'. I'm sure plenty can be found in webstores but I thought I would easily be able to find one.

My question is, which pins are connected in a 'our' rs232 cable? I vaguely remember from soldering null modem cables that there were only 3 wires involved (2,3 and 5). I couldn't find anything on it on the reprap website.

The connector on the powercomms board uses those three but it also loops 4 to 6 (DTR-DSR) and 7 to 8 (RTS-CTS). I.e. it effectively converts a straight through cable into a null modem cable.
