Help to find a driver for my 57HD0401 15SB

Hello,

I have the typical Chinese CNC 3040 that you can find in ebay. This CNCs comes with a massive controller that need to be connected to a massive old computer with parallel port, that is why after some time missing how my desktop use to look before I bring my CNC I have decided to replace all the digital components by a beagle bone black plus the CRAMPS cap.

This cap requires several Pololu drivers to manage the steppers but I am not sure which driver should I use. The steppers that I am using are the originals that came with the CNC3040 and they have the next characteristics:

Brand: 泰州安川 Taizhou Yasukawa
Model: 57HD0401 15SB*
NEMA: 23/57mm
Step: Angle 1.8 º
Rated Voltage: 6 V
Rated Current: 2.0 A
Phase Resistance: 3 Ohms
Phase Inductance: 5 mH
Max Static Torque: 4.5 Kg*cm
Number Lead Wires: 4
Motor Weight: 0.45 Kg
Detent Torque: 0.21 Kg*cm
Motor Lenght: 41 mm
* Others 57HD0401 could match as well

I was planing to modify some old StepStick drivers that I have at home to provide the 2A that I need to move this steppers but I am not sure if this is the best way to proceed or if there are any other driver could fit better.

2A is a tall order for Pololu style drivers. My best bet is the RAPS128NG or other drivers with the LV8728MR chip. It can handle up to 2.2A and is surprisingly quiet. There is a second "decay" potmeter to adjust it to unusual steppers, but I never touched it.

Thanks for your comments o_lampe, I will check more info about this controllers, I started to worried that I would need to bin my project since I only knew about the ones based on A4988, DRV8825 and TMC2100 and none of those was looking to provide enough current.

BTW I have tried to edit the nema23 wiki page to add the info about my steppers but I didn't manage to do so. It would be nice if anyone could do so because there is not that much info about this steppers in English and they are really common on the 3040 cncs, I found the info here:

Stepstick S109 Stepper Motor Driver Compatible with 57 Stepper Motor .
S109 driver is based on the Toshiba TB67S109 stepper motor driver chip design. Its maximum driver current can reach 4A. It can drive the 57 stepper motor, compatible with the Pololu pin definition.

WOOOF, what a driver eye popping smiley
4A is more than enough, but I doubt it will last long, if anyone tried to test that limit.
I once have hacked a A4988 with longer header pins and a heatsink below the PCB ( where it is more effective ). Such a hack would be useful here too...
