Gen 6 Heater current

Hey all,

Im running a Gen 6 board and have just purchased a Buda style hotend which uses a ceramic heater.
This one in fact - [www.ebay.com.au]

Will my board be able to power that heater?
(should have confirmed before I purchased...)

Cheers
Ash

So no one knows what the max heater output on this board is?
I've emailed Maker-Farm for no response...

Don't know what happened to the link, its the Buda nozzle that gadgets3D sell.

Presuming the FET used for the extruder is the same as that used for the heated bed, you should be fine. Although a bit more of a pain in the ass to find than I'm used to from the past 30 years of specifying components for far more serious endeavors, it appear the nozzle in question uses a 4.7 ohm resistor as the heater, which @12V source works out to a bit over 2.5A continuous. (ie, at 100% duty cycle, or the max current you should ever expect to see in the heater unless it faults)

Again, PRESUMING, as noted above. You're on your own if any of the presumptions don't match your setup.

Yeah none of that matches..lol
The heater is a 40W Ceramic type, not a 4.7ohm resistor, as stated in my original post.
I also dont have the Gen 6 deluxe so there is no heated bed FET or output.

Cant believe it is so hard to find info like this..

Sorry, I realized that you said "ceramic heater" but although I went out of my way to check the gadgets site after you left out the link to that nozzle, for whatever reason, it was not showing the product details when I visited it, just a short description that had no device characteristics, which is why I looked elsewhere. The only reference I could find was the BOM on the Buddaschnozzle site in the UK, which referenced a 4.7 ohm My bad.

ah...40W. so 40/12 = ~3.4 A max with a 12V peak PWM source. That was easy.

So, you need a FET drive circuit that can support that. Just use the same type used for the heated bed.

There is the wiki entry [reprap.org]. It says heater output, 4A.
