Which LCD display works with Ramps 1.4?

I have Ramps 1.4. I want to add a 2004 backlit LCD. I found two types on ebay, a cheaper standard one. and one that says serial i2C version. Which will work for Ramps 1.4?I have seen videoes where the connector goes on the board. Just dont wanrt to buy the wrong one.

Also. the "Smart Adapter" is there a place just to get that adapter? I have an SD card reader and a rotary encoder already. Do I even need the Smart Adapter?

not the i2c one... thats normally only used on Sanguinololu Displays

Technically either could be made to work, but i2c is not the 'normal' way on a ramps

I would think first of firmware, e.g. i2c if firmware supports it, then its fine, but otherwise not. I think repetier supports lcd via an i2c expander and if that is what you want to use, then it could work.

Otherwise if there is no i2c support you would need to draw wires directly to the lcd, that is bypassing the i2c expander. In any case, if you buy one without i2c, then probably wont be able to add it later. On the other hand if you have a soldering iron its not hard to hack into a board and bypass it. Again its up to you.
