Full graphic smart controller stuck on blue screen

Been having trouble with the reprap discount smart controller, all i get is this blue screen.
Using marlin and ramps 1.4, uncommented the controller in the firmware and installed the u8glib.
I've tried switching the extensions around too, but to no avail.
Any help on the matter would be much appreciated!

Silly question - did you check the contrast settings? If it is a recent genuine RRD display, there is a trim pot on the back of the LCD near the SD card slot. You can CAREFULLY grab it from the side with tweezers or needle-nose pliers and take a 1/4 turn swing (power off) until you see the missing characters or black boxes if the firmware isn't configured properly.

Word of warning that the trim pot is almost as thin as tin foil, so don't pinch it too hard or you'll break it.....

The display may not be genuine. (The contrast trimpot is on the front.)
Ive tried that too, still nothing.

Some (like mine) have two pots - one on the display card, and one on the card with the encoder . . .

It turns out the 10 pin ribbon cables were oriented the upside down, switching them around resolved the problem.
