Cupcake electronics - voltage tolerance

Hello,

Thanks for the help everyone.

I'm looking into alternative power supplies for RepRap, some of which would have an unregulated voltage. I'm using the generation 3 Mendel electronics. I know that the safest thing to do would be to include a 12V regulator, but it would be cheaper to exclude it as long as nothing will be fried.

Does anyone have any experience with what the voltage range tolerance is on the Gen3 and the stepper motors? I've seen mention that the extruder board should not be powered with more than 18V, as that is the limit of the regulator on the board.

Thanks!
Chris
