Host & Arduino Electronics

Hi

On the Arduino Alternative Electronics Web page at the very end it shows:-

"Once you have the host software installed, open the software and pull up the Preferences menu. Change the preferences stated to the values below:"

Unless I am missing something there appears to be no further information.

Does the Arduino connect to the standard host software that communicates to the earlier electronics?

I have had Host O.8.1 running on a Windows XP machine communicating with PowerComms PCB V1.2.1 and Universal controller PCB V1.2.1. set up as X axis only working the stepper exerciser (without motor).

Jonathan Marsden might be pleased to know I downloaded Reprap Host 0.8.3, placed it in the directory stated and ran the batch file and it also worked the stepper exerciser fine.

Hey Ian,

Sorry. I started that part of the documentation last night, but I havent finished it yet. I'm still working out the proper values for the PIC temperature implementation.

I should have time to finish it tomorrow, make a release of the new Arduino firmware, and get everything tidied away by the weekend.

Just to confirm, the Arduino will connect to exactly the same host software as the PowerComms PCB V1.2.1 and Universal controller PCB V1.2.1.?

Ian,

Yes, the Arduino will be 100% compatible with the serial protocol. Depending on your setup, you may or may not need the powercomms board. Each Arduino includes an onboard USB->Serial converter chip (just like the USB->Serial USB cables)

If you use a single arduino setup, then you can just go directly from Computer -> Arduino.

If you use a dual arduino setup, then you need to make a token ring of Computer -> PowerComms -> Arduino 1 -> Arduino 2 -> PowerComms -> Computer
