Marlin for a 4000x2000mm laser cutter?
October 28, 2013 06:09AM
Hi, I've tried searching on the technical limits (firmware) for the size of the machine but could not find any answers.
I'm thinking about building a large and fairly low power laser cutter built around CoreXY frame to work with thin textile.
Before pulling the trigger on the Ramps 1.4 I'd like to hear what the limitations are in terms of the dimentions.
Would Marlin be able to handle 4x2 meter travel envelope?

Any input is apreciated, please share your thoughts or links to some buildlogs if someone built a large size machine such as this.

... this depends on the used data types for storing and calculating the steps and the microstepping resolution.

Should be more than enough with long integers winking smiley

Due to some logistic issues the design has now changed to 3000x1800mm.
Still no info on whether either of Marlin or Repetier would have any issues with the size or not..sad smiley

@Muza Why not ask repetier? He's around in the forums and usually also replies to emails. I'm sure he will be glad to assist - he's a friendly guy smiling smiley
