secret message laserd in a 3d acrylic picture?!

We've all seen these astounding 3d pictures laser'd in an acrylic block.

My idea is to use XOR-algorithm to generate a dot cloud, that looks like a simple 3d picture seen from front, but seen from the side, the dots gather up to a secret message.

How is it done? Place a 3D object and the text in 90° orientation and XOR the object with all the pixels of the text. The result will be a more or less accurate dot cloud of both objects.
Why should this be done? Take a wedding picture or your first born baby and put some heart braking text ( or the wedding date you always forget winking smiley ) and you have a really unique present..

Has anyone seen that done? Is it possible? Why not??

... it is possible, but will slightly "distort" the main image with hatched parallel lines, when seen not exactly perpendicular.

My first experiences with this sort of "inner glass engraving" around 1995 with an oldstyle NdYAG-laser with much slower switching/pulsing than modern types, generated clear pixeled fonts when viewed from top, but a mess of 1 to 2 mm long lines per pixel, when viewed from the side ...
