File down a Nema shaft?

I'm trying to build a printer with parts I have on hand.

I have a nema 23 stepper with an 8mm shaft and my shaft coupler is for a 6.35mm shaft.

I really don't feel like waiting 3 weeks to get a new coupler from China, so I'm wondering how realistic it would be to file down the end of my shaft from 8 down to 6.35 to use my on hand coupler?

My biggest concern is, if I file it unevenly, will it hurt it mechanically.

Thanks

I wouldn't fancy doing that - risk of getting filings in the motor etc. Can you not drill out the coupler to 8mm?
