I think it will sag under the weight. Where are you, steel rods should be available in most countries?

I'm in Germany (near Karlsurhe).
I have only found the normal steel bar (i.e. RUSTS).
BMZ or A2 bar I haven't found yet.
The normal hardware store chains here are BAUHAUS and HORNBACH und neither carry A2 steel bar.
And the aluminum bar is very pretty, but I assumed that it probably isn't stiff enough for it's purpose in the Mendel.

Yes A2 would be difficult to find in a hardware store in the UK but very easy to get mail order from places like RS, and Farnell.

I am using normal steel bar that hasnt so far rusted.
I also I know I dont have rusty fingers.
Some people do have rusty fingers any thing they touch rusts.
