Kapton - Dangerous Aircraft Wire

Basically, if sparks hit the kapton, it chars and thus no longer insulates, like cork. it can also explode in the thousands of degrees that sparks provide.

The issues noted here don't disqualify its use in our extruders, but just make it that bit more important to insulate everything properly if using uninsulated nichrome. Just don't think it's perfect and infallible smiling smiley

I usd some high temprature self amalgamating pipe repair tape over the Kaptan tape.

Its like a rubber selef amalgamating tape its in B&Q in the UK so it is likely to be avalible else where as well like the plastic corner blocks.

Its just called high temprature pipe repair tape ~ think it was a max temp of 250C.

Does that mean that it is illegal to transport a RepRap that uses kapton tape on an airplane also?

Yeah kapton tape burns rather violantly.
I wanted to prove to my friend how heat resistance is, so I took my lighter, and tried to put in fire, and it had no problem, burned really fast. Dunno if it is toxic or not ...

If I read correctly at the wikipedia article polyimide is made from CHNO, so should not be toxic, but Im not a chemist.
