Hi!
I am in the design phase of a large format 3D printer. Its moving gantry uses a mirrored double layer H-bot kinematic with a Nema23 bipolar 1.8° stepper motor in each corner.
Each stepper has its own Trinamic 5160 with a custom driver board on a custom mainboard. Firmware is Klipper, the belts are Gates GT 3mm belts with a width of 15mm.
This results in a total of 8 motors, 4 for each H-bot layer. It may look like total overpower but I design for speed and accelleration to keep print times viable despite the size.
Now I am wondering how I should align the motors considering their step angle. Initially I thought about ensuring all 8 motors resting in a full step. But then I have read somewhere that if you have a dual belt system you can align the second belt system in a half step position to minimize VFAs. Considering that there are many other alignment combinations.
What you you think about that - any advice or experiences? Does stepper motor step angle alignment matter in the first place?
Best regards,
Demo
