iya

just trying to sort firmware and cannot find PID settings for J-head IV-B

any ideas? or how i can work it out?

googling i found this

J-Head Mk III-B
#define DEFAULT_Kp 20.18
#define DEFAULT_Ki 0.69
#define DEFAULT_Kd 197.48

just wondering if anyone has IV-B settings?

You need to run the M303 command under pronterface (when using Marlin) and it will do an auto-calibrate, let it run 5 times and use the figures for a little overshoot, put these into the firmware.

You need to run calibration on each extruder set-up, they will all be slightly different, depending on resistor, thermistor, wiring and insulation of your hot-end. Don't just copy settings from someone else.

A bit of an add on, if you try this, you should do the M303 (PID autotune for Marlin) when the nozzle is COLD (or close to it).

Normal operating temps of PLA or ABS are too warm for it to tune.

Does it always tune at 150C? No matter what I seem to do the tuning moves to 150C and that's where the values are established. Is that right?

yeah i get the 150C thing as well. Seems like its a preset in the Marlin firmware.
If you do a lot of printing with fans switched on be sure to have them on during the auto tune process.

As far as i can tell the auto tune sets the proportional band (P) to react as quickly as possible to temp change then the I and D are tuned to
dampen over shoot.

Thanks a lot. That clears up one question I had. Thanks again.
