Modify/plugin for Pronterface or write new firmware?

im interested if it would be possible to modify Pronterface to work on a Beaglebone Black with simple stepper drivers. all i would need to know would be if it would be hard or possible to rewrite the code to work directly with the steppers and extruder.

i have come to the conclusion that it will be simpler to just write a series of new code/firmware.

list of things to do
  1. Write python code to divide G code into commands
  2. Write code to interact and direct PRUSS
  3. Open source Code and write document
  4. Optional write GUI
