Techzone Gen 3 Hardware Problems
August 17, 2011 11:50AM
I recently purchased techzone gen 3 electronics and i cant for the life of me figure out how to interface them with the host software(repg or Repsnapper). First i did everything that the wiki instructed me to do by uploading the 5d firmware using the arduino software which worked fine. After that i tried using the recommended reprap host software which seized up and crashed. I later found that everyone who uses this hardware uses Repsnapper or RepG software. This was all on a WIN7 X64 machine. The drivers for the usb port where automatically configured before i uploaded the firmware so that wasn't an issue however none of the host softwares could connect to the printer.

I have since tried to connect the hardware using ubuntu 8.04LTS and have had no luck. So far i have gotten RepG to run but the usb ports disappear from the program after i try to connect to them with this error message: Connection error: The serial port named '/dev/ttyUSB0' could not be found. This is after i select it from the pull down menu machine>serial port>/dev/ttyUSB0. If i rescan for ports in the same menu the usb port is gone and it doesn't come back. I was wondering if anyone has had these issues with the Techzone Gen 3 hardware and if anyone had any ideas on how to fix it. \

is there a 3v vs 5 volt select on usb ttl? it may be set to the incorrect voltage. one way to test this is if the usb ttl device is detected when not plugged into anything.

i got it working, sorta.. i uploaded the teacup firmware and i can now control the x,y,z axes but no extruder. when i try to move the stepper the firmware crashes and the stepper motor vibrates but does not turn. its annoying that nobody else has seemed to have these issues with the tz gen 3 electronics so im pretty much stuck.

To be honest i am considering cutting my losses with this set of electronics and just buying a makerbot set.

techzone is well known to be less than stellar quality. try ramps if you do decide to cut your losses
