Best Electronics and Extruder for Mendel?
September 12, 2010 09:38PM
Hi everyone,

I have just CNC machined all parts to build my Mendel - 'Isaac' chassis.

I'm now thinking about Extruders, Hot Ends and Electronics, and have confused myself..

I was hoping to buy these preassembled from somewhere, and was wondering which system was the best in terms of:

reliability...

quality of print - Just how good has the reprap's resolution got?

Will my choice here affect the software that I can use?

Cheers

You can get the Tech Zone Remix electronics from botmill.com
And mendel-parts.com will soon have a new electronic set out.
Or you can get the arduino set from ultimachine.com which requires some assembly.

The extruder most people use is either [reprap.org] or [reprap.org]

And this [reprap.org] is a good nozzle build.

You can use all the software with the different electronics, as far as I know. Some boards may require specific firmware though.

... depending where you order from, the GRRF-shop could be interesting too ...

New compact MakerGear pkg

this might be the new extruder pkg to watch...

We are very pleased to offer the new MakerGear Compact Plastruder - everything you need in a plastuder and less. We've helped hundreds of botters with their printing issues and our hot-ends have been field tested and botter approved. Our hot-end technology is now coupled with the Bruthead filament drive and a geared stepper motor to deliver a compact yet tough, reliable, and variable speed plastruder.

Thanks everyone for the advice, sorry about the slow reply - busy week happened to me...

~Nudel - the Botmill complete kit with PSU and motors looks ideal - kinda plug and play- although Id really like to order from the UK if possible (I know I didnt mention that before...)

The nozzle design looks great /and tidy- although I cant find any stocks of that ready made in any stores. It doesnt look that difficult to make though, so I might have a go.
I cant seem to find a geared extruder as a full kit/pre built from any store.

Grrf shop seemed very expensive - nearly as expensive as Botmill, but didnt include cable kit and motors/psu.

I'll keep hunting...

... actually, there is a lad a work who has just said to me:
surface mount electronics? got the plans? We'll just print 'em up and solder it all together. Piece of *iss.

Now, I like that sort of approach.

I'll see how many he wants to/can be bothered to make - If others are interested... then we can work out a decent price with him...

Maybe my day is getting a little better... smiling smiley
