8mm thick sheets?

Just a quick one - could I use 8 mm MDF for all the thick sheets?

The wiki says 4-6 mm
http://reprap.org/wiki/Mendel_materials_procurement#Thick_Sheet

But I don't see why 8 mm shouldn't work? You might run into some height problems on the frog, but you could always counterbore the bottom bolts. And of course it will weigh more than a thinner alternative.

I will now dispence my usual advice: Try it! And if it doesn't work, put it up on the wiki so the next person will know. ;-)

Just for the record (I don't know how to edit wiki):
8mm is too much, it is doable but you can save yourself a lot of trouble if you stick to 4 - 6 mm, as the wiki currently says.

yeah I have 4 mm particle board for the frog and even with that the belt that runs under it is pretty close. I think that if you took off the 2 lower bearings you will get more room. This might make it touch the stock stepper drivers, though, if you are mounting them underneath the bed (i don't know how tall they are, so might be moot).
