Y-Axis direction problem

I am having a problem with my Y-axis where in printrun, if I am telling it to go up for a while it will suddenly reverse and go down, then go down for a while and suddenly reverse and go up. I am only telling it to move in one direction but it seems to oscillate on its own.

It is a mendel RAMPS 1.4 and using sprinter firmware.

Perhaps the dir line to the driver is floating, i.e. not connected somewhere between the Arduino and the Pololu.

Hey thanks for the suggestion! I really appreciate it.

I tested all the pins with a multimeter and they seem solid all the way from the top of the stepper driver to the bottom of the arduino.

Is there anything else that can cause this? Unfortunately I really don't even know what is happening on a technical level. I was hoping it was just some bug in printrun.
