Cool. I had near perfect prints on the first try with my very first printer (Prusa i2) as well. If you actually take the time and made sure everything lines up and squared off and belts are tighten, it just works. grinning smiley I used slic3r default settings and there it was. And it only got better as I tweaked it.

Got my hot-end from here:

[stores.ebay.com]

It was in-stock price was reasonable, and j-head is a proven setup. I figured I could always switch to a budaschnozzle or prusa nozzle or something else later on.

Watch out for the Jhead hotends that are not Original ones. The link is not a Original one.

What's the failure mode on fake ones?

Many of the J Heads out there aren't from Reifsnyder but are from others that make them using his design. Some of the things to watch for are tolerances, material and fabrication quality. The failure mode would depend on what the defect or fabrication errors were. If you have the capability they aren't difficult to make. Like many other components there are low cost knockoffs that don't perform as well but there are also others that are suitable.

I have just completed building my Prusa i3. What Next ??

Are there specific steps I must take to calibrate the printer. I loaded Repetier software & I can move the head from within Repetier.

So how can I make sure if I try to print an object, the nozzle or carriage won't go too far and break something... I have installed all three end stops.

hope someone can guide me to a source that explains the steps I must take...

p.s- nice looking i3
Nice. I have one from makerfarm, but I am looking to build another from the Einstein variant. I like that black frame!
