MG Prusa Mendel heater died — are there other extruders I should consider?

I have a MakerGear Prusa Mendel kit that I've had for a couple of years, and it's served me well. However, the heater core just died.

Aside from rebuilding the nichrome wire + ceramic clay heater core, or getting a new heater from MakerGear, what other hot end/extruder upgrades do you think I should consider? Drop-in for the GrooveMount might be nice, but I have access to another printer to make new parts to make it fit, if I have to. I'm really loving the easy-feed clip-in extruders on the MakerBot that I have access to (not sure the part number on those as they don't seem to sell them separately).

I'm considering a JHead as the best drop-in replacement on my Mendel right now. What other options would you recommend?

Thanks!
Mark

I like the look of the promethius extruder, personally.

It has some features that I havn't seen anyplace else, like the adjustable transition zone thing. Plus I like how the fan bolts directly onto it for less chatter.

Just my opinion smiling smiley

Oooh, I like the looks of that. Looks like it's still in the pre-order stage, though.
