Mini Mendel
April 26, 2010 02:03AM
Hi

I just joined the forum, wanting to build a mini-mendel..

What tools do I need and what are the material?

And would a mini mendel be able to print this?(see attached file)

How much is the building cost?

thanks

YES, a mini-mendel can easily print the CORNER.STL contained in your RAR file.

The building cost will be less than for a Mendel.
The electronics is the same.
The motors are NEMA14 instead of NEMA23, should be cheaper.
Frame is M6 threaded bar instead of M8.

Really?smiling smiley
I found a material sheet somewhere, but couldn't download it.
Do you know how to download it.?

And I can't find the STLs of the parts that need to be printed.

You're being a big help.!

The STL (and STEP) files are available on the Mini-Mendel wiki page (in the box on the top right hand side of the page).

If you are interested, I just finished printing a full set
of MiniMendel-parts:

Basic mechanical tools should be enough.
Some cheap soldering-equipment if you do not get your
electronics pre-assembled.

About 350eur in parts stated here:
[objects.reprap.org]

That page also contains some sources for the parts needed.
(Please add more sources if you find some outside the US.
All the parts should be easy to obtain)

I'm building a Mini-Mendel right now. I have a nice .xls file for the Mini I found somewere, don't remember were. It has lots of info, Costing, M3 BOM, Mendel M3 lengths, and a note section. PM me your email and I'll send it to you. There are a few parts in the STL that are from the first Mini and are not needed, roller-clamp_8off and xlr-bracket_1off. If you have someone print you a set have them replace 4 of the frame-vertexs with the ones with legs that Erik de Bruijn has on Thingiverse. I'm going to have to put something under mine for clearance. The price will be a bit more, Erik printed his own parts. My Mini will cost me about $650 USD.

Um..

I have another question.
Are the electronics the same?
And what do people mean when they say electronics and mechanics?
how about motors?
In the mini mendel BOM, there are hardware, motor and electronics where do these fit into.

thanks

From your questions I don't think the Mini-Mendel is for you. It is a smaller version of the Mendel that is still in development. I only know of one that has been completed and prints. I chose to build a Mini-Mendel for the challenge of getting it to work. There is very little documentation for it or even less for building it. I would think that something like a Makerbot would be better. It comes in kit form with everything you need and has good documentaion.

I'd recommend [forums.reprap.org]

and so on. It helps our community. smiling smiley
