Aluminium bars

Hi folks,

I'm new to the RepRap project, and I'm currently ordering items to build a Mendel (or, more proabably, as Isaac).

I think I may have made a mistake in ordering round bars made from aluminium instead of steel, given their tendency to bow. Is there any chance of them working well, or should I just scrap them without even trying?

Many thanks,

John

Hi,
Are these the ΓΈ8mm guide bars? or M8 threaded bars? if they are the guide bars then i would say they would not be accurate enough, would wear excessivly with bearing running on them an alsow bow. You could however use then in place of some of the M8 threaded rod pieces by running a die up them!

of coarse you can always try them, and replace them later if they are no good, as they should be fairly easy to slide in and out.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! They're the plain guide bars. I think I'll play it safe and order stainless steel ones, as it shouldn't cost too much extra...

Now... what to do with some some aluminium bar?! winking smiley
