So I got busy with school and my printer has sat for a couple months. I attempted to get it going tonight, but I am having an issue with one of my z axes motors (there is 2 on my printer).

The issue:
Step 1) If I run the Z to the top of its travel, by hand,
2) then use the control panel to adjust height. Both motors run

3) lower Z axis to build plate.
4) use control panel to adjust height. ONE motor runs.

is this just a bad motor? (mottle number 42byghw609)
Or is this a connection issue?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Make sure the motors have adequate current.

Are both motors connected to one driver? If so, since both motors run one way but only one runs the other way, you probably have some misalignment in the mechanism that is causing one side to bind which prevents that side's motor from turning. Make sure the screws and guide rails are all parallel to each other.
