Trying to open the STP file that has the mini mendel pieces. What free or open source software for windows will open this file?

CoCreate personal edition is free as in beer but not OS. I can open and export STLs.

FreeCAD will open the files. I had downloaded the file myself and open it.

To get FreeCAD go to:

[sourceforge.net]

yes it is OpenSource and the development of it is quite active.

I have been building a Mini-Mendel and have found a problem I can not fix. I do not have the software to make the corrections. The x-axis belt(red) runs though the x-carriage(blue). The guide bearings on both the x-blunt-plate and the x-motor-end-clamp need to be moved. From my measurements they need to be moved out 15mm on one side and 20mm on the other. Is there anyone that can do this so I can get replacement parts made. See image.

I´m not sure I can identify the issue in the picture. Yould you mark it?

Haven´t erik and at leat one other person already build this model with success?

I looked at the STEP assembly model and it seems to show that the belt does clash with the carriage. I asked Erik as he has made one but he said he used a laser cut carriage of his own design. Has anybody else made one of these?

I´ll have a look at the model when I´m under Windows again tomorrow.
Should be trivial to correct.

Here's another view Marcus. (btw there is FreeCAD for linux too)

It looks like that in STP file there are no pulleys but that belt go only around the screws. IMHO if pulleys are used then they would guide the belts around the x carriage.

Looks like on the left side the pulley is to be attached to the carriage
(it must move the carriage after all) and on the right side the pulley that
guides it is currently invisible like the 608-bearings aare invisible in your picture?

Could just be a suboptimal simplification in the 3d-model.

The bearings are missing but the belt passes round them as if they were there.

In guess these 2 rectangular pieces on the x-carriage with the 2 holes each are where the belt attached to the x-carriage to move it around.
The other side should have something to guide the belt either around it or it is slightly off in the model and the belt goes through the hole in the middle.

Has the belt enough play to turn 45° and fit through that slit I see that exist on the backside but not the front side of the x-carriage?

It is not so much the side where the belt attaches to the x-carriage but the other side. The belt rubbs on the carriage and could cause wear over time. I have Urethane belts so they should hold up for a while. It's something I thought should be fixed.

That slit won't work as it has bearings in it.

The Mini-Mendel uses 623 bearings, not 608's. There smaller for a smaller machine. smiling smiley

Hey, just now saw this post.
Im not sure if you figured something out or not yet, but I went ahead and redesigned the end plates with the pullys moved out a bit.
Let me know what you think.
