Diamond shape Z axis

Hello,

We've built an experimental 3D printer that has Z axis as a diamond shape. Idea behind it was that when printer is not in use it could be lowered down and thus take less space. Mechanical part seems to be solved and working fine but we have a trouble programming a Marlin software for Z axis. Since there is indirect dependence of stepper motors rotation and the achieved height of Z axis we can't use a constant value as (steps/mm). Any kind of information could be valuable so please share your thoughts and ideas, thank you.

Well that's different. In most printers, gravity is taking care of backlash for the z axis. How does this design handle that issue?

I see precision issues when the "car jacks" are on their lowest point. What are the initial steps/mm?
Also the gears that connect the arms, have to be 100% play free. Otherwise the gantry can tilt back and forth. ( maybe the weight of the steppers take care of this? )

Except from being foldable thumbs up I see no benefit.
