A few years ago I saw a reference here to another site that showed how to get 2D XY motion using two stationary motors (one for X and the other for Y) and cables (fireline) and pulleys. When I saw it, I thought that was clever. Now it is exactly what I need for a new 3D printer that I'm planning. For the life of me I cannot remember or figure how it was done. Can anyone help?

Very clever system with separate X & Y, not like a Core system.

Blended with polygohell's solution to stop the wire from "walking" up and down the spools, I think it would be sweet.

I don't like the length-difference between the fishinglines of X- and Y-axes. I can't explain why, it's just gut feeling

Thought on this for a bit, but the ratio is roughly 5:6 for string length, and shouldn't react vastly different from each other.

The longer section does carry the greater load though...hmm.
