Support plugin confused smiley

I want to print a lid for a box and the internal measurements are 46mm by 46mm square 4mm deep, can some one please explain how to use the support plugin for SF41 or even SF40 as I don't want to print the lid flat side down. Unfortunately I don't know how to write Gcode from scratch yet so I would like to use the support plugin confused smiley

Thanks
Gary

Support is handled by the raft plug in. Look up how to use that.

Hmm
I turned on support and left it at the default values, big no no couldn't remove the support afterwards bummer.

Support is weird in skeinforge. It was lumped with raft when it really needs it's own tab. I still have no idea why the interface infill density ratio is what determines the support density ratio.

First, turn off clip. It always messes with my support for some reason.

Activate:
Raft
Add raft, elevate nozzle, orbit.

I use a support flow rate over operating flow rate of (1),
Interface infill density ratio of (.5)
Support gap over perimeter extrusion width of (-.3)
I set the base layers and interface layers (integer) to 0

I attached a picture of a part I printed with support that came off rather easily. I forgot to take "after" shots, but I can upload that tomorrow if you think it would help.

I print with ABS, on a VERY well calibrated and accurate printer. Support is rather unforgiving if your flow/feed rates are not pretty darn well set.

Also note, the support only seems to run along the left/right axis, so make sure the layer on top of the support is perpendicular to the support before you start printing.

Hope this helps.

That seems to work quite well but I stopped the print as due to a bit of oozing at the end of each support run the support layers were going to be hard up against the inside edge of the lid. Do you use any oozebane settings with those support settings?

No oozebane, just stepper retract at 10mm/s for .5mm

The support layers essentially butt up to the inside edge, with a very small amount of bonding. It looks like it will be impossible to remove, but a light tug/twist with a pair of needle nose pliers pulls it right off for me.

Of course, you will never get a perfect surface finish with same material support, though.

Ok thanks for that all seems to make sense
