How to create 'raft tail' or start printing prior to actual raft
June 23, 2011 10:29AM
I've seen some demo's / videos of prints where it looks like there is a line being printed coming into the raft, prior to the actual raft being printed. I am having an issue where the 1st 4-5mm of the extrusion that is put down for a raft does not stick well (possibly cooler extrusion?) but the rest of the raft goes down fine. Is there a setting in SF for this? Should I be changing something else?

I've attached a picture of what I am trying to accomplish, but I've seen different versions where it creates a print box outside of the print area and moves in.

There is the "Skirt" option in Skeinforge, where a box is drawn around the printed part. It's pretty useful for getting the extruder going before printing starts, and checking the nozzle isn't too close or far away on the first layer. My settings are:
(tick) Activate Skirt
(tick) Convex
Gap over Perimeter Width (ratio): 5.0
Layers To (index): 1
