Sanguinololu 1.3 Heating issue
November 06, 2012 08:09PM
My printer seems to be working, except once the heater gets hot - 230C for ABS - after about 5 minutes it suddenly starts dropping temperature, and will completely quit heating... the temp will drop far enough the plastic will not melt and will jam, etc..

Any idea's how to troubleshoot this?

Hello Artiface,

I had the issue myself, maybe your situation is similar;
When my hot-end heated up above a certain temp, the soldering joint of the heater wire would let go (cold joint)
The wire would bend over the heat and no contact would be made.
After cooling down, the heater worked again, up until a certain treshold. It took me ages to find out!

Alternatively, check if the max heat setting in the firmware isn't around 230C

Did you find a solution to the overheating... if so you should leave an update on the thread you opened... yes ?

It may help others with similar problems

If the MOSFET is overheating, you can replace it with one that has lower Rds On. The IRLB8743PBF from digikey can even drive a pcb heat bed without heat sink.
