are these motors good?
February 20, 2013 08:32AM
Hi everybody,
i just want to know if these motors are strong enough for a prusa:
JAPAN SERVO KH42HM2B046
MINEBEA TYPE 17PM-K106-05V

I can't find the proper datasheet and i found some conflicting information.
Can anyone help me, please?

thanks

Hmm. I just goggled the part numbers. it was quite easy

All the google entries for the first motor are in languages other than english, so you're on your own there

the second has data at the eminebea website

I think you ought to fire them off an email, since the datasheet for that series doesn't show the '106' variant, which kinda implies to me that it's no longer made.

Thankyou for your answer.
About the first motor: the google entries are in italian (my language) but they aren't a technical page. (i want to buy the motors from that seller, but i don't have enough information)

About the 2nd motor: i saw the datasheet on the page that you have linked.
The problem is that the data that is on the link you posted are different from those who wrote the seller.
eg: the seller says that the motor is 4-wire, then bipolar, but in the datasheet the motor is unipolar. (and it's impossible with 4-wire).

I don't think that sending an e-mail going to accomplish something, i think mineba won't respond to a question about an old engine.

Thankyou again...

on a company getting back to an email....maybe so, but never say never.... Anyway, the good thing is that you can purchase new motors off ebay for about the same money as a latte, a 6-pack of beer, an inexpensive bottle of wine, or a few candy bars. Cheap thrills in the big picture.

Mmm..
I don't know where to buy a brand new motor nema17, 1.7A, 4000g/cm of torque, for 6€.
Maybe in the USA, but not in italy. The problem is that "nema" isn't an european standard and it's not widespread here. (not to mention the costs of customs and taxes).

The lower price that i found is for a set of 10 nema motors, from china, at 105€.
It's "only" 10.5€ /motor but you have to buy ten motors instead of 5..,

have you got some good news for me? maybe a link on ebay?

Hmm...Well, I'm not sure about Italy's access to ebay, but here's one for $8.30 US

You could always email Wantai @ sales@wantmotor.com
(where the motor is from)

The price is good, but you have to consider the shipping cost: 11$.
Total = 19,30$ -> 14,6€ (not to mention the costs of customs and taxes for an item imported from the outside of the european union).
You can buy a set of 5 motor, trying to reduce the shipping cost, but the saving is very little and you risk a lot more controls at customs.

In Italy (and, in general, in Europe) these engines are relatively expensive.

Well, I can't do anything about that. I did what I could for you.

In terms of purchasing foreign-made items, I'm not in any better position (aside from not being subject to any tariffs that Europeans insist on applying, which I do not believe has a counterpart here, at least for steppers).

I purchased a set of 5ea, 56 oz-in motors a few months back and their shipping cost was equal to (actually, slightly more than) the purchase price. And what's more, in classic Chinese fashion they shipped about 6 weeks after they were ordered.

they came with a factory installed MXL pulley. i am succesful with cracking those off to fit other pulleys but it will leave a drill pilot mark on the shaft spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
