Can I cover the back of the stepper motor

I was going to place a heatsink that covers the back of the stepper motor and this would be covering the open hole area. I was wondering if this was acting like a breather hole and covering it would cause problems.

No problem in covering that hole. What you see there is the motor shaft end and a bearing.
