What are some ways to decrease stepper motor noise and vibration?

I have been tuning my set up for a few weeks now and have most of it dialed in. But, I still don't have my steppers operating like I want them to. They work fine but I want to decrease the harsh changes of direction, especially for short length infill. I have gradually turned down the accelaration and jerk all the way to 750/2.5. In cura I have decresed my speeds to 30mm and 15 for infill and it is still jarring. Today I upraded my mounts and and couplers so it can handle it but I would really like it to get this sorted out. I want to make it cushion the changes in direction so i can turn the speed back up. Also, during starts of moves or transition of lines the motors will make a harsh shuddering vibration and then go back to moving smooth. That is by far the most annoying problem of all.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

there are silent step sticks. 1/256 micro stepping (this is internal only, externally they are still 1/16 so work 8 bit controllers, but runs quiet)

There is also RRD Silencioso - 128 microstep driver - Pololu compatible, real micro stepping... needs a 32 bit controller for anything over 1/32 micro stepping.

Yes I am actually looking for some new drivers. I want the 1/128 Pololu's so right now I am shopping around for the right 32 bit controller to control them. What controller will dc 42 recommend? Is it the re-arm controller? Because I looked it up and it looked good but I couldn't find where to buy it. I am going to keep reading up on different controllers so I don't get something and regret it. I just want a little more performance so I don't plan on spending too much.

BTW I guess I have been poking around in configuration h. too much. I started to think about what could cause the sputtering while watching it print and I realized I must have turned down the jerk setting too low and my motors were getting limited by the controller everytime they tried to accelerate. I turned it back up to 10 and it is running very smooth again. I have been doing some upgrades all day so now I can finally enjoy them.

Just to be clear, it is the Duet WiFi and the forthcoming Duet Ethernet that have the TMC2660 drivers with 256x microstepping. See [www.duet3d.com]. The older Duet 0.6 and Duet 0.8.6 only do 16x microstepping.
