Z Stepper motor not moving on DuetWifi

I'm in the process of upgrading my Creality CR10 with Duet2Wifi. The Z axis stepper on the creality is slightly smaller 34mm.

I have been unable to get the the Z motor to respond at all. I've tried homing and sending G1 Z10 F1200 via pronterface. There's no vibrating or movement at all and the stepper turns freely as if it wasn't powered. When I replaced the stepper with a normal 40mm the stepper works and the Z commands work correctly.

I have tried swapping cables, upping the current in config.g, using the 2nd Z connection and bought a new 34mm stepper which also had the same problem.



Any idea what could be causing this?

the stepper probably has different wiring.

find the coils.. for how see --> [reprap.org]

don't take any notice of colors, there is no standard for stepper motors

Does the CR10 have just one Z stepper motor, or two?

Which firmware version are you running on the Duet? The latest stable firmware (2.02) will tell you if it detects an open circuit stepper motor phase.

The CR10 has only 1 Z stepper.

I just upgraded the firmware to 2.02. When I try to home Z i get this notification...

Ie both motor phases (coils) are incorrectly wired... as suggested 3 post ago...

As Dust says.

Please confirm that you have 2 jumpers in the unused Z motor connector.

That indeed was the issue. The Z Stepper was incorrectly wired.

A little strange that the Z stepper was plug and play on both the RAMPS 1.4 board I was using and the stock CR10 board.
