0.9° Stepper - Worth it?
October 17, 2019 11:05AM
I'm planning a Ultimaker clone, I have enough 1.8° degree steppers but I may buy 0.9° motors if they would produce an improvement in print quality.

I can see a potential on the X and Y but what about the Z and extruder they seem less likely?

deltas: yes it helps
others: no it just limits your top speed. (needs twice as many steps/mm)

Take a look at a reprap calculator
1.8 degree steppers gives you a theoretical 5 micron resolution in XY using standard components
0.9 degree steppers gives you 2.5 micron...

Its unlikely you will see the difference.

Thanks Dust.

I'll use the ones I have.

I used them on my CoreXY printer - reduced the noise considerably.

With good drivers there is no noise

I use a Duet board - which has very good drivers.
