I fixed a radio

I fixed a radio

My 1937 Zenith 5S-127 radio uses a belt to drive the dial mechanism. The original belt was some sort of rubberized cloth that was disintegrating when I got the radio at an auction about 25 years ago. At that time I replaced the belt with an o-ring that I cut to the right length and glued. The glue bond lasted a couple months, and the radio has been sitting with an non working dial mechanism ever since.

Yesterday I opened it up, retrieved the o-ring, made some measurements, and 3D printed a new belt using TPU filament.

The radio is working again...

You can't buy a radio like this and expect it to work. I restored the electronics by replacing failed components many years ago, then refinished the cabinet.

This is what I should do with My Summa Sign D610 24 inch vinyl cutter.
The only differences is I need a Rubber Tire (" Tyre ") for the Pinch rollers.
I rigged three faucet washers together with rubber glue to form a single wide Tire around the original bearing this seems to work though it is not quite the right diameter.

You can do the part with TPU too ! To get the correct dimension , roundness, finish use abrasive wheel on a Dremel for ex. ABrasive is perfect to machine TPU.

I really like TPU. So many uses and it looks nice, too.

Cool
do you hear
"Hello Mr and Mrs America and all the ships at sea"

Some one born in 2000 would never know what it is?

Put an arduino w blue-tooth in it, so you can listen to it with your air pods
and a stepper motor on dial drive, so you can tune it from an app!
