This is awesome. I laughed so hard. Now I need an excuse to use this in literature. I am not 100% yet but I love the direction.

Hello, Nikolas! Since I saw and already Your Simpson printed, constantly I watch your works. This all outstanding. The logo of a crab very much is suitable for your design, it should be added on each detail of the printer and to extend with it. Forgive for my bad English.

Shame it's CC-BY-NC, so not really OSHW.

@asb: Most people mislabel or use the default license. I am guessing that is the case here. We should contact him.

However, Simpson would be strong enough to have a whole NEMA17 if you want. I expect many to play with that.

@nicholas.seward - Have you posted the beta stl's for the Simpson yet? I really want to play around with the funky linkages!

I know you running an official beta testing, but how about an unofficial for those who cant afford the $500 in one go?

No. I will cobble together some files tonight for the brave. The official release will take some time and will be after I get done with Wally's official release.

@nicholas.seward - Cool, thanks! Having a fully parametric and scalable version is always the hardest part of releasing a design. For light weight and cheap arms you can use carbon fiber archery arrows, their about $5 for a 30" piece. Have three in a triangle configuration and it would be quite strong.

@Jasper1984: I should be CADing but I couldn't help myself.

I converted it to 1 color and did the direct replacements for the RepRap logos. I also had to font match. (Life is hard for people like me.)

1) Does the 1-color version work?
2) What does Crab stand for?

Cuddly RApid Builder
Completely RAilless Bot/Builder
Cost Reducing Architecture Bot
Cuddly Rightous Anthropomorphized Bot
Capable Robotic Assembly Being
...

3) How serious are we?

I can see this as just a fun thing we laugh about right now or it could potentially be the branding for a branch of the RepRap project. Thoughts? What makes something a RepCrab? (I would say any bot that tries to increase it reprappiness factor and/or decrease its costs through the removal of standard linear motion rails.)

Edit: I am mostly on the "have a few laughs" side. Also, RepCrab doesn't really roll off the tongue.

In the one-color version it is similar to a Cyclops - the cripple, on 2 crutches.
And tail for some reason sideways, or it not tail, and something else?
It is necessary to create a logo in 3D

I can only imagine that Jasper1984 meant the crab to have 3 arms.

This may be a little easier to see with 1-color.

Be careful with repcrab, because it could very easily turn into repcrap. I do like the logo though, very cool.

that if a foot which on the right, to shift closer to the center. and back to move more to the right?
Re: Grounded Experimental Delta Printer

Six-arm Simpson is definitely a repcrab.
Re: Grounded Experimental Delta Printer

I vote for "Cost Reducing Architecture Bot" as the meaning!

Question: When the nozzle is moved in the extremes of its coordinates does the end effector rotate at all? Can you use an extruder that has the tip offset from the precise center?
Re: Grounded Experimental Delta Printer

Those changes really help, i think the unicolor version works well. Somehow the inverted one looks a bit better.(But they're both good) Moving the pupil a bit is good aswel, makes it less confrontational.(Other logos use it that way basically.)

I tried adding the those blocks to the feet of the Simpson, also tried adding another vertex to make it look more 3d, dont think either is better, in case of logos less is more i think.(not to dissuade anyone from experimenting)

I like 'Completely(/Cuddly) RAilless Bot/Builder' sounds good, there is a 'RA' in there. Aught to be a word for the A though. Adorable?

> Be careful with repcrab, because it could very easily turn into repcrap. I do like the logo though, very cool.

Are there many cases where the name of something is misused, and it isnt already really disliked anyway? (In principle some dudes could sell really bad reprap kits, but that should reflect on them, not us..)

We have Surrendipulously Enough Rationale In Order to be Unambigiously Silly. More seriously use or dont use it as you wish.

@uMinded: The nozzle does rotate relative to the print. It is very minimal. Feather and Polar3D both have much more nozzle rotation with no issues.

You can have an offset extruder. The math just gets harder. If you look through some past posts I originally was going to do an offset mount. I also did a mockup of a multiple extruder.

in the case of polar 3d, one can print through origin of the platter (where the acceleration and rotation essentially reverses) without any issues also.

Just to make sure I'm not missing something: The files for the geared version of the Simpson or RepCrab ,o) have NOT been released? Or they have and I just having found them yet? Help a fan out with a link or a better keyword?

They're not released yet. Nicholas built a prototype for New York Maker Faire, and we built another, and in the course of that discovered a few things that could be improved. He's working on those improvements, but they're waiting in line behind the initial release of the design for RepRap Wally.

I just found out about this and tried to print it on a Makerbot and unfortunately the frame is much too large for the Replicator, everything else fits just fine. Is there a substitute frame stl?

You must be talking about the version on Thingiverse. I have yet to release the gear arm version. Should be within the month.
