Try this gcode. Sliced with Prusa Slicer, I set the seam to rear so theres a common start and end point. Hopefully that would tell us if it's just the start/stop points.

This is the same gcode, different color. That mess on the left side of the Benchy is from the cooling fan ? I noticed that you changed the speed of the cooling fan during the print.

Yeah, the bow of the boat is hard to print. It requires fairly good cooling from what i've read. I've never printed a benchy myself. I'm betting the fan shrouds we use aren't really optimal, I plan on upgrading mine.

Prusa Slicer does control the fan speed if you tell it to as well as it will slow down so layers don't go down too quick. So you're not stacking hot plastic on hot plastic and it turns into a gummy mess.

I was looking for a better solution to replace the cooling fan but I couldn't find one. What do you think about your gcode on my machine ? Besides the cooling fan, do you think is something wrong with the printer or the slicer ?
Re: Kossel Delta xxl build project HELP
April 02, 2020 02:54PM
I think your machine is fine, I think most of what you're seeing is a Slicer problem. Looks like Simplify is drawing the outer perimeters too thick. After figuring that out, you'll want to tune the retraction and do something with the cooling.

I was thinking of going with this duct or something similar. That could use a blower fan instead of an axial fan.

Are you planning to use a 5015 fan ?
Like this one ?

Yes, most likely a 5051 fan.

Are you planning to use a 2x 5015 fan set up or just one 5015 fan . They are not to many models out there for smart effector .
Re: Kossel Delta xxl build project HELP
April 03, 2020 11:07AM
I was thinking about 2 5051 with some sort of ring cooler to push air out all the way around the nozzle. I like the mounting method of the one that Zesty designed so I may do a combination of one fan mounted that way with a ring attached to the bottom and then have another fan mounted on one of the other sides of the effector and use it's attachment points to stabilize that end of the ring so it doesn't bounce around and is rigid. Thinking of either doing a simulation in Fusion 360 or just printing it and maybe testing with a vape stick to see how the air flows.

I think that's a good idea. I already printed the Zesty 5015 fan duct and the weight was 20.48g. One 5015 blower fan weighs 28.34g ( I ordered mine today) . Isn't to much weight with 2 blowers ? What do you think?

It might be too much. One is probably enough. I’ve even been looking into 40mm or 30mm blower fans.

I finally found a way to install the Zesty fan duct as you can see in the picture. By mistake I make a short between the legs of the blower fan. Now the lights, heatsink fan and the cooling fan for Duet board are not working. There is any fuses for Duet or smart effector ? Please let me know how to do troubleshooting . Thank you. I can't believe this.

Which Duet is is it? Duet WiFi/Ethernet revision 1.03 and later have a 1A blade fuse for the fan supply.

Thank you David for your reply.
I have a Duet2 WIFI V1.04a. I found the fuse and I'm on my way to the store. Probably they are not going to have a 1A but I found your post where you said I can use a 2A fuse. Thank you

I’m curious how the new cooling has affected print quality.

I never had the chance to use it. It takes to much from the build plate, I can't use G32 . The blower fan is hitting the Y tower during the auto calibration. The bracket it has to be modified to fit the smart effector. I printed this duct : [www.thingiverse.com] 270 degrees and give it a try. I will post some pictures today.
Did you change your cooling system ? I ordered some 4010 blower fan to try them out.
Re: Kossel Delta xxl build project HELP

I haven’t had the chance to try new cooling. I just stared a new job and haven’t settled yet. I did see that the fan hangs out pretty far. I was probably only going to use it’s mounting method. I’m thinking of doing a couple of 4010. I also found that SeeMeCNC has 3010 for sale. I was thinking of trying a couple of those. Maybe with either a circular cooler like the Zesty one you printed or something like this one.

This design looks promising. I like the tusk very much. I think Filastruder have the 3010 fans also. I don't know how easy is to find the tubes
Re: Kossel Delta xxl build project HELP

I would have thought to find the tubes at a hobby shop but they’re all probably closed. Maybe something compatible can be found at a hardware store. I know Lowe’s and Home Depot are open. I’ll see if I can get a design drawn up to work with the smart effector.

There is another set up like this on Thingiverse with 2X4010 fans. Did you see it ?

I did modified the 270 degrees fan duct and this is the result. This is the best print.

Re: Kossel Delta xxl build project HELP

The bow looks pretty good, as does most of the rest of it I think. Looks like there’s some stringing. That’s probably a temperature or retraction setting. I think the temperature is probably good cause I had it set for 185 in that code. The retraction you may want to be more. I know you use Simplify3d, but I sliced those in Prusa Slicer. I can send you my profiles and you can tweak with them to get the stringing taken care of then translate the settings to Simplify. I’d almost say maybe stick with Prusa Slicer because you can set it up for firmware retraction and tweak it while the print is going.
