Heat bed with Gen6 pre-deluxe
March 28, 2012 01:39AM
Hello!

Does anybody know if there is any way to add support for a heated bed on Gen 6 electronics? If not, is there an easy way to control heated bed without using the printers electronics. I'm using MK1 Heat bed for Prusa and would like it between 50-70c for PLA.

Thanks!!!!!!

Did you ever get an answer on this? I have one lying around that I'd love to dust off and put to good use!

Yes there is a way. If you've got around $40 you can do it pretty easily.

Check my blog. Schematic and code is there.

Here's a switch suitable to drive a heated bed: [reprap.org]

Now we need an Gen6 owner who figures out where to connect the signal pin. smiling smiley

Hi, I'm in that case I have a Gen6 board and a heatbed Mk2a, and looking for a solution to have the heatbed... heating 50-60°C smiling smiley.

I've read the SevenSwitch wiki page and it is unclear for me how to get the Gen6 working with it sad smiley.

And I imagine it would require firmware mods...

A solution without using the printer electronic would be fine.

I wonder if the heatbed would work with a Pulse Width Modulation, setting the temperature directly via width modulation.
With a manual command and direct temperature indicator, that could be fine.

As with any soultion you need to find a signal pin on this board. You have the board, so you're much better in finding that.

I don't really understand what you mean Traumflug.

The only pin available is I2C. Pins used by a Gen6 are available to everybody and the same for all Gen6 no ?

Is it possible to control SevenSwitch with I2C, and control temparature this way without any firmware mod ?

I2C pins can be used as generic digital I/O pins, so yes, you can use these pins.
