Hi,

I have tryed all the electronic component markets here in Karachi, Pakistan but couldn't find this IC MCP2200 here, what is the alternate for it ? I have found these usb - ttl breakout boards in local online shops

[www.evselectro.com] (aprox. 12USD)

[digipak.org] (aprox. 4.5USD)

will any of them work and how would I have to install them to the board ?

Thanks

Both should work. Take care to jumper them for 5V.

If you prefer these, you can use the v1.4 board layout. The changes between v1.4.1 and v1.5 are this MCP2200 and a change of the 100 uH coil for a 10 uH one.

As another option I can send you such a chip. EUR 2.- + EUR 2.50 shipping.

There are USB-TTL converters for 3.3V and ones for 5V. You need a 5V type.

Most of these converters have a solder jumper on the PCB to switch between both versions, so you can change the type with cutting a tiny trace and a blob of solder in the right spot.

In Gen7 1.4 the 5V pin in serial connector is not connected to any trace, so I believe that there is no problem if USB-TTL adapter is 3.3V or 5V. Am I wrong?

BTW, you can buy the MCP2200 chip directly from Microchip. Or even request a sample for your project winking smiley

Umm I ordered the 4.5USD (450Pkr) Usb-ttl converter which arrived today here is a close-up. Guide me how to use it.

As Traumflug said, you must use this adapter to connecto to Gen7 1.4. Instructions are in the Gen7 1.4.1 page in RepRap Wiki
