Hi to all the old birds. I have just finish building my mendelmax 1.5 and I need some advice for u guy.
First is the how to get the first layer print to stick to the print bed.
And how to set it to print faster currently the print is speed is super slow at 0.3 layer.
The print is nice but I need it to print faster. And when print half way the product drop out of the bed.

Thanks.

What material are you using?
Do you have heated bed? If yes temperature set?
PLA - need to have a clean base (I use glass) with heated bed
ABS - heated bed with glass and sprayed with acrylic paint. others use abs juice(acetone with abs melted)
Hope these helps.

google the above key words with 3d printer will usually yield lots of answer.
abs juice - [www.youtube.com]

I currently only print in PLA. I have a hotbed with glass and kapton tape and a fan. but not activated. So if I switch on the hotbed, must I leave it on for the full print ? Or just for the first layer? Thanks for ur reply.

Usually I turn it on all the way. Yet to try switch it off half way.
(when it cool, it will contract. so it's anybody guess if it will peel off the platform. smiling smiley

If it peel easily, u can set the height lower (I am saying in terms of 0.05mm lower) This will force the print flatter onto the glass n stick better.

3D printer is usually trial and error for us to know which works best on the machine. (patience is a virtue, but seldom practice including me)

Ok will try switching on the hotbed. Thanks.
Emadine,

Another Mendel Max user here haha.( will be repurposing it to something else in a few mths time)

Don't switch off mid way. ur prints will juz pop off the heated bed when cooled.
I have tried before, trust me on this unless u are using wood glue on the surface.

Please do clean the kapton tape surface once in a while with demethalyted spirit.

Cheers,
Cy

I have try many diff combo. And it seem to me the only way for the first layer to print on the bed is the PVA glue.
U converting ur mendelmax to a router? Will it work? I have a friend who interested to use mendelmax as a router.
Btw. I have another issue. Is that my x and y is not 90deg. So now my square is not square. Any idea where should I adjust?

Cheers
Thomas

I find that hairspray is the best, I am using a heated bed with glass but i switch it off half for way large prints, smaller prints I leave it on as the contraction tends to make the print 'pop' off the bed. For hairspray all you have to do is turn on the bed to operating temps, then spay into a clean tissue until it is very wet, then wipe it on the bed, within seconds it will dry and give the glass a hazy surface. it has never failed me.

Regarding the x,y issue. if your axis are mechanically squared already, and they run in both directions smoothly then check your calibration (steps per mm) i normally use this print (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:53668) to calibrate as it is fast and easy. you should have good prints after that. if not, next thing to check is the current to the motors.

Let me know how it goes, It can be frustrating at first, but once you know what to look for it becomes easier smiling smiley

Thanks,

Sanjay.
