hi cy,

thanks for the web and their local at yishun, great. do they just sell the rods only and in decent cost? i only need few of these as i already have some of the component from my previous project. i m really on tight budget so went to some metal workshop and they dont sell such short length and charge excessive just to help me to cut the rods. i went nuts. i shall give romscraj a try.

but thx cy.

regards,
m
Hmm, I can't recall the price.

Do give them a call or drop an email to ask for quote. No need to physically go down imo.
But , if you are going down, grab their lm8uus linear bearing and kapton tape. They are cheap.
My lm8uu got at a similar price to ebay minus the shipping time (unless you are buying in 100s) .
Kapton tape wise I was chopped at sim lim tower. =(

Recalling my conversation with kp, they got their rods from a supplier around amk.

On another note, I have spend quite a sum on my machine.(upgrade to a max and certain mods.)
This can be quite an expensive hobby.

My advise to you is not to try to always go lowest budget.
Certain decision made early can save you alot in the long run.
Opt to get stainless stuff if possible, rust is not a friendly thing to deal with. (esp i have sweaty palms)

Some advise I can offer you base on my experience with the prusa mendel is
1) Buy a bottle of loctite from any hardware store. The vibrations caused by the printing can loosen your nuts. I have a few cases on my nuts fall off during the mid of prints.
2) Heated bed is very very useful to prevent warping.
3) Use PTFE lube/ grease and not 4wd to lubricate the smooth rods.
4) Print a set of spares. Parts will break at some point, esp the smooth rod holder and end-stop holders. Mine broke alot.

At anyrate gd luck and all the best to your build.

Cheers,
Cy

If you want, you can just call everyone on greenbook and see which is the nearest to you.

You want to look for:

M8 x 1.25 stainless steel studs or
M8 x 1.25 steel rod

Standard length is 1.2m if you want to cut yourself. For a prusa i2 you would need 6 x 1M rods to cut as per the wiki. It doesn't need to be super accurate, +- 1MM is fine.

8MM steel linear shafts/rods (G6 tolerance)

Standard length is 1.2m if you want to cut yourself @ approx $40/length. It will cost you close to $80 sgd for them to cut for you given the i2 specs. You can only get them at shops that sell cnc, machining or hydraulic parts. You will also be able to find linear bearings there, and woah it is expensive.

Though, personally I feel an i3 is much easier and a better design.
