Need help with 3D printer
July 29, 2014 04:17AM
Hi, i need some help with my 3D printer.

I bought mine from China, using Melzi v2 board.

Recently, i started printing, it will stop printing suddenly. No respond from RepRap Host manual control as well.

It can stop any time from few minutes to hours into the print.

I tried printer using both USB cables and SD cards.

Initally thought was due to over heating, so i on my Air-con and got a fan blowing it, same issue.

Anyone got the same problem or solution?

Thanks.

When you used the SD card did you remove the auto reset jumper? If not a USB connection failure will still reset the board even if you aren't using it for comms.

If the USB connection is dropping out check the ground between the Melzi and the PSU is a very good low resistance connection. Otherwise the bed current can flow down the USB cable and cause a disconnect. Also make sure you plug the machine into the same mains outlet as the PC it is connected to. Otherwise the ground loop can pick up RFI and cause a disconnect.

The USB to serial chip might be sensitive to electrical noise, a few people include me has such problem before. Not much can be done for the board. Try to use filtered power socket for PC. Try not to have fridge or high power equipment connect together with it.
