Universal Board Changes

Universal Board Changes
March 18, 2007 06:38PM
Hey,

In doing last minute changes to the board tonight in preparation for
my prototype order, i made a couple of changes:

1. Power, Stepper, Alt. Fan, Alt. Extrude, and Heater connectors have
been moved to .200in / 5.04 mm pitch width connectors. I felt like
this was the right thing to use... especially since these guys are
sending power, it will be easier to find connectors for them. if you
want to go the route of normal pin headers, .200 is also very easy to
find. this should work well for everyone. if it doesnt, let me know
and we can discuss it.

2. added descriptive text to various connector modules on the
silkscreen. alot more could be done here to have documentation
on-board for people when they are making their boards. if anyone
wants to go in and look at it / make changes... please do! Kicad has
a very nice inline module editor that allows you do to all sorts of
cool stuff to components on a board layout

the boards are looking great, and i'm getting very excited!!

They are power, but we're only talking about roughly 2A max, so
0.1/2.54 connectors should be fine, and there's a much bigger selection
of those available.

Really useful, especially for the commercial boards. And for homebrew,
printing the silk on an acetate then laying it over the board is very
helpful to remind you what's going on.

And for the tests so far they work, too :-)

Best wishes

okay, yeah i've thought it over... it doesnt make sense for the fan,
extruder, heater, etc... but i still think it makes sense for the
stepper connections. it just seems so wasteful to have those
beautiful molex plugs go to waste when they're right there.

i'll change them back and see how it looks.
