Building RepRap for new Kinematics class

I'm trying to build RepRapFirmware 3.6-dev as a platform to test my new Kinematics class. I'm getting a C++ syntax error, but it is not trivial for me to come up with a fix.
I ordered a Duet3 mini 5+ to prototype on. 3.6-dev only seems to have a Duet3_MB6HC folder. Since I'm still just trying to compile at this time, I'm trying to build the MG6HC executable.

Should I be working from a different branch? 3.7-dev?

My host is Linux with eclipse. I'm using arm-none-eabi-g++ (Arm GNU Toolchain 15.2.Rel1 (Build arm-15.86)). Original development may have used version 13, but perplexity claims that some have reported success on v15.

If there is a better place to post my question, please let me know.
